The son of Mr. and Mrs. Emile Modde of James St., Wallaceburg. Born: 8 Feburary, 1922.
William enlisted 2 September, 1942. The WN 27/01/44 reported that Tpr. Modde was undergoing training at Camp Borden, ON. Tpr. Moode was reported to have recently passed his Driver Mechanic exam. The WN 15/04/43 reported that he would be transferred to the Trade school at Hamilton for a course in motor mechanics once his leave was completed.
William enlisted 2 September, 1942. The WN 27/01/44 reported that Tpr. Modde was undergoing training at Camp Borden, ON. While in England he was serving in the Canadian Armoured Corps. During training manouvers he suffered an injury, hospitalized he was eventually returned to Canada aboard the hospital ship “Lady Nelson”. His injuries made him unfit for service and he was honourably discharged from the Army in August 1945. Bill was reported returned home in the CDN 6/06/1945 The CDN 5/06/45 William returned along with J. I. Asher, Oliver Kelly and J. S. Trudell.
After the war Bill married Martha and together they owned and operated Bill’s Nu-Way Cleaners in Wallaceburg, ON.
