Lloyd enlisted in the army in 1940 and was beginning officer training. In the spring of 1942 he began losing weight and coughing. Diagnosed with non-tubercular basal disease of the lung. When the report reached his commanding officer he was ordered to turn in his uniform and was given a medical discharge. “So it was that on 13 March, 1942, my days in the Service ended.”
In an article in the RIN 5/11/14 Lloyd was reported as saying;”You will understand when I say that I had mixed feelings. They still come to the surface every Remembrance Day.”
