Private Mitchell enlisted as Bugler with the 186th battalion going overseas the latter part of Mar. 1917.
At Bramshott he was promoted to Sergeant of the Buble Band, but reverted to Private and volunteered to France, crossing Sept. 24, 1917.
He transferred to the 18th battalion taking part in all engagements until Nov. 10 when he was killed in action at Passchendaele.
