The son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Milner of Tilbury East Twsp, Kent Co., ON. where he was born. They would move to 2347 Windermere Rd., Windsor, ON. Joseph had a brother Jack Lee who served in the RCNVR. An article in the Tilbury Times “bygone years” reported that Joseph had attended school in Windsor at the Campbell School, Prince Edward School and Prince of Wales all in Windsor.
Joseph enlisted in the RCAF at London, ON. 15/09/1939 after completing a business course in Chatham
In November of 1940 Airman was given a ten day leave to visit his parents from the Camp Borden Training School. He was reported serving overseas 28/10/41.
His last letter to his parents was dated 26/12/42, saying that he was in good health and spirits while he was stationed in England but was in Ceylon. (as it was then known as).
The CDN 13/02/43(P) reported he had been reported KIA while serving with the RCAF in Ceylon. He had resided for a number of years with his grandmother Mrs. Catharine Miller, 136 Lorne Ave., Chatham.
DOAI – Date of Death: 07/02/1943, died of asphyxiation from petrol fumes; Ceylon.
Casualty Type: Commonwealth War Dead, Grave/Memorial Reference: 3. AA. 7.
Cemetery: COLOMBO (LIVERAMENTU) CEMETERY.
