Born 16/07/1923 the son of Harrison and Florence Catherine (nee LaMarsh), brother to Kennie, Melvin and Sydney. A nephew of Robert Mills, of Wallaceburg (WWI).
The WN 23/03/44 reported that Pte Mills was serving on ‘active’ duty. Served in England with the Highland Light Infantry and Transferred to the RCSSC in 64th Army Transport and Europe (France & Germany). He landed in France 16/07/44 with a load of bridging. He then drew general supplies.
John transferred to ‘Public Relations’ printing the “Maple Leaf” the paper for the troops. He was later picked to be a jeep driver for a war correspondent. He only got 30 miles into Germany before coming down with Yellow Jaundice and was sent to Ghent, Belgium to the Army hospital there. The war in Europe ended while he was in hospital
He volunteered to serve in the Pacific and it ended before he arrived. He returned to England and from there back to Canada.
Discharged 5/11/1945 at Wosley – Barracks – London, ON.
