Born in Stratford, lived in Chatham, ON. Son of James Robert and Hilda Millman, of 24 Ardaven Place, London, Ontario, Canada. His father James was a well known musician and in his later years a ‘goodwill ambassador for the Labatt’s Breweries of London, ON. 

Robert attended Central School and Chatham Collegiate Institute before his parents moved to London. Robert attended business college in Chatham and was working at the Chrysler Corporation in Chatham.

He enlisted with the RCAF 14/11/42 at Chatham, ON.; he trained as an air gunner at Three Rivers, PQ. and Mont Joli, Quebec,  and was reported returning to Quebec to continue his training 14/03/44. Robert was reported home on a 14 day furlough before moving on to take a Commando course at Valleyfield, Quebec. 

Robert was given the rank of Pilot Officer before he made his last mission over Germany after which he was reported as MIA. A letter to his parents informing them of his promotion dated 13/03/45 reads as follows:

Dear Mr. Millman,

I have been directed to inform you and your son Robert Bruce Millman has been commissioned with the rank of Pilot Officer with effect from March 13th 1945. His officers number J95401.

May I express my sincere sympathy to you and the members of your family in this time of continued anxiety.

Age: 21, KIA – Date of Death: 15/03/1945, in Lancaster bomber NG 177 of 50 Sqd. RAF, on Air Ops. over Lutzkendorf, Germany after successfully completing the attack the air craft crashed, about two weeks before VE-Day. The crew of five Canadians and two British were also killed. These included P/O (WAG), Thompson. R.L., F/L. Ling, F.J., F/O Rutland, P/O. Holmes A.W. Missing in action P/O(AG) has no known grave.  

Letter subsequently received by the family from their son intimated that he expected to be coming home to Canada on the 15th of April as he would then be entitled to leave for this country, his last flight was his 36th mission
