The husband of Helen Catherine (nee Cheyne), the father of Velma and Michael Alan Nash. The son of Mr. Frederick W. and Mary Miller, the brother of Sgt, Donald, Douglas, Velma, Gordon, Margaret (Mrs. James Fox), Winnifred, and Janet they were residing in Cedar Springs. Ed was the husband of his second wife Helen (nee McGuigan), predeceased 2013.
He was born in Port Henry, B.C. on September 29, 1913. He enlisted in Toronto, Ontario in March 1940. Serving overseas with the RCAF in Great Britain was reported to been awarded a Mentioned In Dispatches in the King’s Honour List in June of 1945.
Ed joined the RCAF 19/03/40 at the age of 26 years. He trained at Dunnville and Halifax. Ed went overseas serving with the 405 Bomber Sqd., in England as a mechanic on Lancaster bombers. Three of Ed’s brothers and a sister also served in the RCAF. The CDN 21/10/44 reported that Flt Sgt. married Catharine 16 Sept., 1944 in Mannofield Church, Aberdeen, Scotland.
Ed married a Scottish girl in September 1944. They have children.
After the war Ed returned to Blenheim where he owned and operated his own construction company and worked as a freelance carpenter and worked at the Southwest Regional Centre for twenty-five years in the maintenance department from 1961 until 1978.
Ed was a regular volunteer at the Cedar Springs United Church. He was the longest President of Branch 185 Royal Canadian Legion.
Ed Miller passed away 23 December, 2018 at the age of 105 years. BNT 2/01/19
