Born 25/11/1922 at Chatham, ON. The son of Percy and Verna Miller of 10 Water St., Chatham, ON. Edgar attended Central Public School in Chatham and Chatham Collegiate Institute.
Edgar enlisted in the RCNVR at HMCS Hunter, Windsor, ON., 1/02/1942, it was his 18th birthday.
In 1942 OS. Miller was reported home on a twenty-eight day furlough before rejoining his ship. CDN 5/02/42. The CDN 29/06/43 reported that Leading Seaman Miller was home on a fourteen day furlough to visit his parents.
L/Stocker Miller served four years and seven months on high seas duty in the Atlantic Ocean. Was reported returning to Chatham from the east coast to attend the funeral of his father.

Leading Seaman Miller was promoted to Petty Officer in 1944 at the age of 21 years. He was then stationed on the east coast. CDN 10/02/44 The CDN 8/09/44 reported that PO. had arrived home from the east coast he was on a furlough with his parents.
The CDN 2/02/45 reported that Petty Officer Miller was returning to Chatham from the east coast to attend the funeral of his father.
Sub-Lieut. Miller was reported to have arrived from the east coast to spend a few days leave with his mother in Chatham. CDN 5/03/45
Edgar was discharged from the Navy 6/10/1945. Promoted to the rank of Sub Lieutenant.
He worked at the Chatham Post Office for two years and was involved in the Kent Regiment as a reservist.
After the war Lionel would return to a military career this time with the 2nd. Battalion Royal Canadian Regiment where he would rise to the rank of Major.
He married Ellen (nee de Jong) on 9 October, 1953.
They had two children Paula Louise born 6 May, 1955 in Germany and Ross Lawrence born 8 July, 1957 in Ottawa, ON., when Edgar was stationed there.
He was in Germany with the 2nd RCR’s and served in the Korean War.
Edgar passed away 4 July, 1966 at Westminister Hospital, London, ON., shortly after he returned from thirteen months on ‘Special Assignment” in Tanzania, Africa. He is buried in Mount Pleasant Cemetery, London, ON. in their military section.
