Mr. and Mrs. G. B. Merritt of Chatham had received word from their son Stanley, that he has again crossed to France to fight with the British forces for the second time. At the outbreak of the Pte. Merritt was serving in the U.S. Navy. After his tour he enlisted in the Canadian force. He served at the front for many months and was wounded several times to warrant his removal to hospital in England.
He was discharged from the hospital and immediately volunteered to go to France again. The letter received by the parents of the Chatham soldier stated he was a POW.
