Pte. William J. Merriam trained in Canada with the 186th Battalion, going overseas in March 1917. after a short training at Bramshott he proceeded to France, transferring to the 18th Battalion. He served with this unit until he was taken sick Feb 27th 1918 when he was transferred to Field Ambulance, went to Casualty Clearing Station Whitley and remained there until cessation of hostilities, Left for Canada Dec 16th 1918.
Discharged at London Jan 21st 1919 due to demobilization.
