Private Mears transferred from the 91st to the 186th battalion in Feb. 1916, and in May took a Signalling course at London, being promoted to Lance Corporal.
He left Chatham for overseas Mar. 22, 1917 and after training at Bramshott, proceeded to France in Aug. 1917.
While returning from taking a message to headquarters, Nov. 11, he was killed in action.
