Regimental  number: 228297. Reference: RG 150, Accession 1992-93/166, Box 7223-35, Item: 135876, PDF: B7223-S035. Date of Birth: 11/02/1892 at Tilbury East, Kent Co., ON. N of K: Mrs. Isabel McWilliams of Lundbech, Alberta. A single farmer. Attestation: 3/05/1916 at Medicine Hat, Alberta. Age 24 years 3 months, 5’ 9”, Comp. Fair, Eyes: Lt. Blue, Hair: Lt. Brown. Enlisted to 13th CMR.

Departed Halifax aboard the S.S. Olympic 28/06/16, disembarked Liverpool, 5/07/16.    

Proceed overseas with PPCLI 28/08/16. Canadian Base Depot ‘in the field’ 18/09/16. Suffered shrapnel wound ‘in action’ to the head 7/10/16 EOR. He rejoined unit from hospital 14 or 19/10/16. William was admitted to the 16th General Hospital at Letrepark. He reported to his unit fit for service

William would be wounded during the Battle of Vimy Ridge on the first day of the attack. A GSW to to his left foot and leg. The leg was repaired but his small toe was amputated. He was transferred to No. 16 General Hospital at Winiereux 17/04/17 and from there to the Bath War Hospital, Bath, England 23/04/17.

He would be posted to the EOR after his wounds where healing but was causing him pain if he walked any distance. He was ten SOS 20/11/17 for return to Canada aboard  the S. S. Olympic 6/11/17 He was discharged from the 13th CMR 14/01/18 at Calgary, AB. ,”Physically unfit for further service”.
