Unit # RCAF, #24 Operational Training Unit.

He enlisted in the RCAF 26/05/1942 at Windsor, ON., he went overseas 9/08/1944. Reported MIA 1/03/1945, confirmed DOAA – Date of Death: 01/03/1945, age 29 years.

While flying in Wellington bomber # MF 538,had the wings fall off whilst in flight crashed over Lenchwick, near Evesham, Worcestershire, England. All five crew were lost.

A military funeral for WO. Lenn Duncan McVicar, with full military hounours was held in England. WO. McVicar was killed in an airplane crash a few miles from his air drome. Wreaths from the officers and NCO’s were placed at the head of each grave. Three volleys were fired by the firing party in a last salute to their fallen comrades. The Last post and Reveille was sounded.

Glenn name appears on page 544 in the Books of Remembrance WWII, at the Peace Tower in Ottawa.

A memorial service was held at the home of Mrs. Minnie Ingram, conducted by Rev. A. W. Honeand at which Mr. A Everitt was soloist to commemorate the loss of Glenn. RIN 6/03/13.

At the base of the burial stone for Duncan and Margaret McVicar is a stone in the memory of their son Glenn.  Red granite headstone – RCAF emblem and wings – at top. Inscribed:

“W/O Glenn D. McVicar

1915 – 1946

Buried in Brooks Cem. / Surrey England”

Glen was the first of three Ridgetown men that would be lost over the next ten day included P/O John Kerr ANDREWS and Pte. Joseph DOWNEY. CDN 16/03/45
