Enlisting at the age of 16 in August, 1942 with the Kent Regt.. He spent “three years and nine months overseas, celebrating his 21st birthday in Aurich, Germany. Fighting with the Third Division in the C.A.S.C., he landed in France on D-Day 1944. Besides France he was in Belgium, Holland and Germany. Robert finished up his war experiences in Germany as a driver with the CASC.
Reported returned to Canada aboard the troopship “Parteur” landing at Quebec City. CDN. 11/08/45. This was the same he was aboard going overseas when the Japanese declared war. Reported to be arriving in Chatham after crossing on the S. S. “Louis Pasteur” and being process on leave in London, ON. CDN 13/08/45. Tpr. James an older brother and Signalman Bernard, younger were also in service stationed at Aurich with the Army of Occupation in Germany. CDN 29/08/45.
Discharged December 15th, 1945.
