Born 28/20/1925 in Chatham, ON, the son of Mr. and Mrs. John R. McMahon of 153 Harvey St., Chatham. Prior to his enlistment he was employed at Carrick’s Groceteria for five years.
John enlisted in the army in 1940 and was one of the first instructors at No. 12 BTC, Chatham. Enlisted in the Essex Scottish and transferred to the RCEMC for service in Canada only. He worked in communications equipment as well as weapons and vehicles. In August of 1943 he went overseas with the Perth Regt.
The CDN 26/02/44 reported that Cpl. James J. McMahon had been injured in action in Italy. Wpord had been received by the family that his condition is “favorable” at that time.
