Hugh was stationed on the west coast in 1942. Married and the father of a daughter Marilyn. She and her mother were living in Brantford. Hugh and family spent Christmas at the home of Mr. and Mrs. James H. McKerrall of Grand Ave. East, Chatham, joined by Allan of Toronto. CDN 24/12/42 

The CDN 5/02/43 reported that Cpl. McKerrall and wife and daughter were in Chatham with his parents on Grand Ave. Hugh had been stationed on the west coast with the Prince of Wales Rangers. He was taking a course at Long Branch, ON.  

The CDN 12/10/44 reported that Lieut. McKerrall, his wife and daughter had been in Chatham to visit with his parents before his departure to the west coast the following week.
