Son of Major and Mrs. G. Grant. McKeough of Chatham. He had a sister Ann.     

Lieut. McKeough appears on the Muster Roll of the 2nd Bn. Kent Regt as Adjutant. [date unknown]. Lieut. McKeough was the adjutant of the Second Kent Regt. when he enlisted for overseas duty.  

Served with the Kent Regiment (M.G.)

In January of 1942 Stewart was on leave from Long Branch, ON. to spend the weekend with his parents that were staying at the William Pitt Hotel on King St., Chatham. CDN 31/01/42 

Stewart and Dorothy were stationed at Niagara in April of 1942 when they stayed the weekend with Mrs. C. Lapp and Mr. and Mrs. G. Grant McKeough before their departure to Barrie and Camp Borden. CDN 4/04/42. It was reported in the CDN 2/07/42 that Lieut. W. Stewart, then stationed at Camp Borden and Mrs. McKeough were spending the weekend with his parents and Mrs. Charles W. Lapp. On the 17th of July the Lieut. and Mrs. McKeough left for the Maritimes. CDN 17/07/42.

Lieutenant Stewart McKeough was reported landing in England among the other Canadian troops. CDN 8/09/42. He would spend about two years in England.

Was selected as Adjutant of the 2nd Kent Regiment. Served in that capacity for several months. He applied for and received permission to proceed overseas as a reinforcement officer and was attached to the 18th, Armoured Car Regiment in England. He suffered an knee injury but was able to proceeded to France shortly after D-Day. He was awarded the Croix De Guerre with Silver Star for distinguished service at Trun.  The CDN 5/09/44 reported that Lieut. McKeough had fractured his ankle as a result of his jumping out of a Jeep. In a separate cable, he is “expected to be returned to Canada in a month”. He was in a hospital in France.  He again suffered an ankle injury and was later returned to Canada where he acted on the Staff of M.D.#1 as orderly Officer to the Brigadier.

Lieut. McKeough, then serving with the 18th Armoured Car Regt. (12th Manitoba Dragoons) which Stewart a member. He had gone to France shortly after D-Day where he suffered his first injury to his left knee. He had sufficiently recovered from that to rejoin his unit in France. He was once again the unfortunate victim of a accident while on active service this time it was a broken ankle. This resulted in his evacuation to England. He was a patient in a military hospital. He was eventually returned to Canada as a casualty, arriving in London on the C.N.R 25/10/44.  

Lieut. McKeough was met by his wife Dorothy (formerly serving with the CWAC – honorably discharged. She would accompany him to Chatham. He would recuperate at his parents at Bally McKeough near Cedar Springs. CDN 26/10/44 A photograph of Stewart with his father, mother and wife and a large “Welcome home” sign. CDN 30/10/44

Lieut. McKeough his wife Dorothy Patricia (nee Lapp) and baby daughter were reported coming from London, ON. to spend the weekend with Mrs. C. W. Lapp and Major and Mrs. G. G. McKeough. CDN 16/02/45
