Lieutenant George Grant McKeough took out his commission in the Infantry at London, Ontario.

Lieutenant George Grant McKeough trained in Chatham and Camp Borden with the 186th Battalion, and left London, Ontario, with a draft from the Western Ontario Regiment December 14th, 1917, arriving at Bramshott Camp January 1st, 1918. He transferred to the Royal Navy March 6th, 1918, trained at Southampton on board H.M.S. Hermion, and was appointed to the Dover Patrol of Motor Launch 282, of which Lieut. Wm. Percy Dean, V.C.M.P. was in command, with the rank of Sub.Lieutenant R.N.V.R.  He took part in the landing of the Royal Navy at Ostend with Sir Rodger Keys on October 17th, 1918, and served until embarking from England February 15th, 1919.

Sub.Lieutenant George Grant McKeough received his discharge February 24th, 1919, at Halifax, due to demobilization.
