The son of Mr. and Mrs. William McCarthy of 30 King St. West was reported serving overseas. CDN 31/05/44 It was reported in the CDN 8/05/44 that Pte. McCarthy was returning to the east coast after a furlough at his home in Chatham.

Went overseas April 1944 to December 9th, 1943. Saw active service at Cannes in France, and in Belgium.

Discharged February 16th, 1946.

George Melvin passed away 11 November, 1985.
