Unit # 1st Kent Regt

In October of 1939 Major Mawley was a company commander in the Kent Regt. M.G. CDN 21/10/39.

John was the officer commanding ‘B’ Company of the Kent Regiment (Active Force) while serving in New Westminister, BC. Major Mawley had a long association with the Kent Regiment. When the Kent Regt. was mobilized for active service he was given the commission of Major in command of B-Company.

A short time before his death he had underwent some dental procedures and for a few days complained of chest pain which was believed to be indigestion. At mid-night on the 24th of October the pain became intense and he passed away in a “few minutes”.

Supplemental Information Son of Alice Mawley, of Chatham, husband of Minerva Mawley (nee Hyland), of Chatham. brother of CSM Ernest Mawley stationed at New Westminister, BC. and John R. of Chatham. Born in London, England he immigrated to Canada in August of 1920. He had two brothers also living in Chatham, John R. and Ernest a CSM servng with the Kent Regt. also at New Westminister. Age: 38, DOD (Heart attack). Date of Death: 24/04/1942. in New Westminster, BC. Major Mawley’s body was returned to Chatham and was buried with a full military funeral, the ‘Order Of Parade’ was published in the CDN 25/27and30/04/45 .
