Unit # Argyle & Sutherland Regt.

‘BILL’ Served 2 years with the Argyle & Sutherland Highlanders. Was wounded and taken as a POW at the Rhine River. Spent 2 months in POW camp and was eventually liberated in the Netherlands. Reported returned from overseas. CDN 13/08/45. Reported returning aboard troop ship Ile de France for Halifax, NS. CDN 4/08/45. Arrived in Chatham from overseas duty 8 August, 1945.  Meeting the train was Shirley Reisner and a photo of the two in a welcome home kiss was in the CDN 13/08/45(P) according to Bill “a kiss fit for a king”. 

William returned to Canada where he and Shirley raised their family, he retired from the Meritor plant after forty-four years service. A long time member of the Kent Coin Club.

William passed away on Sunday, 29 June, 2014 he was 89 years old, at home, interment in Maple Leaf Cemetery in Chatham, ON.

Supplemental Information Son of George and Mrs. Martin, 195 Adelaide St., Chatham, ON. The husband of Shirley, (nee Reisner formerly of Windsor, ON) father of William B., John, Susan (Thomas) and Patricia (Richards), he had a sister Irene.
