Born 19/09/1910 at Bristol, England. Son of Mr. and Mrs. William Martin, of Bristol, England. the brother of Herbert (British Army) a second brother unnamed.

Married to Lillian Monica (nee Quibell) of Montreal, PQ. RCAF (WD).  William was living at Duke St., Wallaceburg and working in Wallaceburg, ON. in May of 1939 for the Greenmelk Corp. 

William enlisted at Chatham, with the 1st Kent Regt. on13/07/1940, transferring to the Essex Scottish Regt. He trained in Chatham, London, Sarnia, Woodstock, Halifax, NS., New Westminister, BC. and Terrace, BC., again in London in Feb. 1943, before going overseas with the Essex Scottish 21/02/1943. Service in England and France

Near the village of Tourneau, during the Falaise operation in France serving with the Essex Scottish in the attempting to capture Hill 184 Pte, near the village of Tourneau, toward the Falsies Gap- France William Martin was KIA, Date of Death: 13/08/1944, age 33 years

Casualty Type: Commonwealth War Dead Grave/Memorial.  Reference: IX. D. 15.

Cemetery: BRETTEVILLE-SUR-LAIZE CANADIAN WAR CEMETERY.
