Private Marshall joined the 24th Kents in 1913 and one year later received promotion to Sergeant which rank he held until his enlistment with CEF.
He transferred from the 91st to the 186th battalion, received promotion to Sergeant, and went overseas with this unit Mar. 26, 1917, arriving at Liverpool Apr. 7, 1917.
He trained at Bramshott until June 6, when he was drafted to the 18th battalion, France.
A few weeks later, while going through some captured German trenches with Captain Spencer and some comrades, at Hill 70, he received a gunshot wound in the head and paid the supreme sacrifice Aug. 15, 1917.
