Frank was born in Wakaw, Saskatchewan on March 31st, 1922. The son of Michael ‘Mike’ and Margaret (nee Boyle) Manninger of James St., Blenheim, ON., brother of Marion Dale, Elizabeth (Grant), Ted, George, Michael, Joseph and Arthur; Frank was the last of the children to pass away. The husband of Margaret (nee Marny Yeager), the father of Michael, Mark and Jane (Howe).
Place of enlistment was Chatham, Ontario on August 19, 1940. Address at enlistment was Jane Street, Blenheim, Ontario. Frank served in the Kent Regt., RCOC and transferred to the Royal Canadian Engineers for overseas duty.
Theatre of Service: England and British Columbia; Mainly performed trade service work – 3 trade qualifications. Worked with civilians in England building items for shelters.
Pte. Manninger was reported recovering from a compound fracture of his right leg between the knee and the ankle, the result of a hit and run incident with a car at the corner of Queen and Edgar St., in Chatham. He was taken to St. Joseph Hospital for treatment. Pte. Manninger was hitch-hiking to his home in Blenheim
After the war he was the president and owner of Manninger and Bros. Construction Company. He belonged to a number of clubs, Kiwanis, the Kent Regt. Assoc., and Royal Canadian Legion. He coached hockey in Blenheim. Was involved with the Canadian Orthopedic Foundatin
Frank passed away 30 March, 1917 age 95 years with internment at Maple Leaf Cemetery. CDN-Obit 1/04/17
