Born in 1916.  The son of Nathaniel and Clara (nee Burns) Mahon; the brother of Pearl (Maynard) and William. The husband of Elizabeth Jane (nee Neff), the father of Judith Ann (Hewitt), Linda Joyce (Pettipace), William Frederick and Paul Douglas.

Donald served in the RCNVR during the war on HMCS Leaside (K492) originally HMS Walmer Castle, her first convoy 22/05/1945 and sailed from “Derry” (Londonderry) escorting ON 261 her last combat sailing and paid off 16/11/1945. Leaside only served in the the Atlantic and Pacific [not known on what ship].  The CDN 3/01/45 reported had returned to HMCS Cornwallis after spending a New Year’s week-end with his wife and two children Betty and Judy.

Donald served in the RCNVR during the war on HMCS Leaside (K492) originally HMS Walmer.

After returning to Chatham he served as a police officer until 1975 when he was promoted to Chief of Police, serving in that capacity until 1981. After his retirement from the Police he served as the chairman of the Kent Housing Authority.

Donald Burns Mahon passed away Sunday, 2 August, 1987 at the age of 71 years old at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Chatham, ON., with interment at St. Anthony’s Cemetery, Chatham.
