Living at 168 King St. West, Chatham. The father of WO. Jack stationed in England and FO. Earl H. was stationed at North Battlford, SK. with the RCAF and a daughter Freda who was employed at Chryslers. He had been in England since May 1940.
Samuel was in London when the first of the bombs were dropped by enemy planes and he went through the ‘Blitz’. And later in the was the ‘robot bombs, he thought those scarred the population more than the Blitz.
The CDN 4/10/44 reported that Sam was returning to Chatham after four and a half years service. His wife and daughter were in London to welcome him home. The RCR band played, representatives of the Canadian Legion were also present as were women of service clubs handing out chocolate and fruit (a peach in London cost five shilling about $1.25 each) to the men who had seldom seen these item in England.
Mrs. Lowrie was very impressed at the reception given to the members of the families of the returning service men. The CDN 4/10/44 also carried a photo of Sam in his full kit,
