Regimental number: 802671. Reference: RG 150, Accession 1992-93/166, Box 5716 – 10, Item: 535474, PDF: B5716-S010. Date of Birth: 01/01/1875 at Moraviantown, Kent Co., ON. The son of Mrs. J. Lewis of Bothwell, ON. A single labourer who was living in Bothwell. Prior to enlistment he had eleven years of service with the 26th Regt. Attestation: 10/01/1916 at Moraviantown to the 135th Bn. LAC.  

Age: 31 yrs. Height: 5’ 5”, Girth: 36” Complexion: Dark, Eyes: Brown, Hair: Black, Weight 145# . Medical 1/01/16. Served with the 135th Bn. at Moraviantown. N of K: Mrs. J. Lewis (mother) of Bothwell, Kent Co. ON. Served with the 135th Batt from January to August 1916 

Left Canada aboard the S.S.Olympic 30/08/16 and arrived at Liverpool, England30/08/16. Transferred to the 125th Bn. at Witley. Transferred ‘overseas to France for service with the 4th Bn. 29/11/16

Served with the 4th Bn. Cdn. Inf. Date of service 29/11/16.

Stephen became ‘Dangerously ill’ and was admitted to No.16 General Hospital at Le Treport, France.  Dause was not stated and he Died 19/04/17 – not yet diagnosed. It was later that his cause of death was from Lobar Pneumonia 17/04/17.

The “Will” was for Mrs. Joseph Lewis, Moraviantown, Kent Co., ON., supervised my the Indian Agent – Mr. Beattie.  

The Memorial Cross was received by Mrs. Joseph Lewis, Route 3, Thamesville, ON. and the Memorial Scroll rec’d. 7/03/21 and the Memorial Plaque 11/10/21.  

Stephen was the grandson of George Snake. CWGC, BT 3/05/17.
