The son of Mr. and Mrs. Floy Little of 22 ½ King St. West, Chatham. The Brother of William ‘Bill’ D. Cpl. A49652, serving in Italy and Pte. Danny ‘Dan’ A86845, Lincoln & Welland Regt. stationed in England. CDN Aug. 44
He also had three sisters: Freda, Avril and Ruth all of Chatham. Cpl. Little was born and raised in Chatham, attending Queen Mary School. He was employed at J. T. Wing Co. on William St. before enlisting in the Kent Regt.
He trained with the First Kents in London, Halifax, Niagara-on-the-Lake and on the west coast. Transferred to the Essex Scottish as a reinforcement.
Appears on the “Muster Roll” of the 2nd Bn., Kent Regiment (MG), N.P.A.N. (date unknown). Transferred as Corporal, H/50447, Essex Scottish Regiment, R.C.I.C.
He trained with that unit in London, Halifax, Niagara-on-the-Lake and on the west coast. Transferred to the Essex Scottish as a reinforcement. He had two brothers Cpl. W. D. Little serving in Italy and Tpr. Dan Little in England, he also left three sisters Freda, Avril and Ruth.
Transferred as Corporal, H/50447, Essex Scottish Regiment, R.C.I.C. to go overseas.
Cpl. Little was engaged to Miss Lois Stevenson of Chatham when he was killed in action.
The Director of Records message arrived to report what no parent nor wife wanted to see:
“Minister of National Defence deeply regrets to inform you that Corporal Francis Earl Little has been officially reported killed in action 29 July, 1944. If any further information becomes available it will be forwards as soon as possible”
According to private information received by the family, Cpl. Little was serving with Segt. Joe Ivison of Chatham and was standing together when Joe fell in battle. Called on to take over his comrade’s duties and he was killed two days later.
