With the start of war in 1939 he enlisted with the RCE and trained at Petawawa, ON. before going overseas in June of 1940.

He was married to Kathleen and they had two children a daughter “Pinky” who was five in 1942 and a son Danny, who when Ernest was reported as MIA he had not seen. At that time Kathleen and the children were living at 793 Parent Ave. Windsor.

Reported as a casualty on the Dieppe Raid in the Windsor Star of 16 September, 1942.  WS 16/09/42(P). Ernie was a POW after Dieppe.

Supplemental Information Born in Wallaceburg, ON., 15 January, 1913 the son of Mr. and Mrs. Stephen Lefaive. The family moved to Belle River where Ernest attended both separate school and high school. When Ernest was nineteen the family moved again this time to Windsor, ON. where he drove a taxi for the Checker Cab Co. until the outbreak of war.
