The  son of Mr. and Mrs. Victor Lauriston, brother of Wilfred The husband of Marie.

5th Canadian Armoured Brigade, also served with the 48th, Highlanders in the Tank Corps in Sicily, Italy and Belgium.

John was in Kirkland Lake when the war started in 1939. He joined the Algonquin Regt but transferred to the 48th Highlanders in July of 1940 to get overseas. While he was training at Camp Borden he made a further transfer to the Tank Brigade and went overses with the 5th Canadian Armoured Brigade.

The 5th Armoured was part of General Montgomery’s Eight Army where he served on the Adriatic coast of Italy. He later took part in the drive from Marseilles across France to the Zuider Zee in Holland.

The CDN 14/12/45 reoprted that Cpl. John Lauriston had arrived in Chatham after four years in active service, he returned on the liner “Queen Elizabeth”.

Discharged January 1946.
