Private George H. Large left Halifax for overseas with the 186th Battalion March 26th, 1917, and being underage was held in England until May 1918 when he was drafted to the 18th Battalion, France. August 26th, 1918, he received wounds in the right arm by the same piece of shrapnel which caused the death of Captain Garnet Brackin his company commander. He received hospital treatment at Epsom, England, until October, returning to the 4th Reserve Battalion, Bramshott, where continued training until December 25th, 1918, when he was transferred to Wales to the 7th Division, Canadian Demobilization Camp, as Pay Sergeant.
After the war George joined the Kent Regt., in Chatham, ON. and remained as Pay Master into WWII.
