Len was born in Wheatley and was brother of Wm. Don Lamb. In 1940 he joined the navy and trained at HMCS Stadacona depot. In 1941 he was sent to the west coast and shipped out with HMCS Alberni [corvette]. Returning to the east coast for convoy duty via the Panama Canal, they stopped in San Pedro, Calif. where Mary Pickford and husband Douglas Fairbanks came to see them. In 1944 Leonard was on shore duty when the Alberni was torpedoed and sunk shortly after D-Day with the loss of 59 sailors. He married Frances Budd of the Royal Navy and they returned to Wheatley and raised a family. Leading seaman Lamb died in 1994.
