Lieut. Date of Birth: 9/12/1893. Reference: RG 150, Accession 1992-93/166, Box 5225-30, Item: 502507, PDF: B5225-S030. The son of John Hilliard Knight and Effie “Jenny” (nee Fraser). Born in Wallaceburg, Kent Co., ON. At the time of his enlistment his father Dr. J. H. Knight was practicing medicine in Saskatchewan home address 353 Ominica St., Moose Jaw, SK. Frederick was listed as a farmer on his attestation.

He had some military training (four months) with the 60th Rifles of Canada. His attestation was dated 3/05/1916 at Moose Jaw. His next of Kin was his mother Mrs. E.M. Knight, 2 Howard St. Edinburgh, Scotland. 

He sailed for England 15/08/1916 aboard the S. S, Graupiau arriving at Liverpool, England 24/08/16 

Completed his basic training with the 128th Batt., at Bramshott 28/11/16. Just in time to be hospitalized 5/12/16 in the Cdn. Military Hospital at Bramshott for Influenza. It would take him a full three weeks to recover. His ‘Medical Board would clear him on 27/12/16 as “Completely Recovered”.

On the 30/05/17 He was absorbed into the 19th Regt. He would proceed overseas 7/11/17 with the 15th Reserve Batt. He was taken on Strength (TOS) 16/11/17. He was taken on course with the Cdn. Corp. 10/12/17 and Regimental courses until 17/12/17.

He was ordered to the Cdn. Field Ambulance 16/05/18 and evacuated on the 25th of May.

The 18/06/18 Frederick was detached to the 2nd/ 4th Batt. Imperial Army and he was returned to England for duty 29/06/18 TOS posting from the 46th  8/07/18.

1/11/18 Frederick was granted a Commission as a 2nd Lieut. Observer with the RAF (Royal Air Force). He would remain with the RAF 10/01/19 before he was granted a leave. 30/01/20 he is released from the RAF to the Canadian Army and sails for Canada 22/03/20.

He would be relieved from military service with demobilization from the 15th Canadian Reserve Batt. He had seen service in Canada, France, and Belgium in the Canadian and British Army and in the Royal Air Force.    

It’s unclear what Frederick did after his war days he was drafted in to US Army in WWII his draft card indicated he was a “a fisherman and his place of work was “Great Big Ocean”. He was living in California. He passed away 14 October, 1974 and is buried at Cypress Lawn Memorial Park in Colma, SanMateo, California.
