Kiser, William Robert

 

The son of Mr. and Mrs. W. G. Kiser of Victoria Ave., Chatham. Born in Chatham in 1926. Brother to Richard Wayne.

Enlisted in May of 1944. The CDN 15/06/44 reported that Ordinary Seaman Kiser was returning to Quebec City after spending a short leave in Chatham.

Served aboard HMCS Haida in the North Atlantic and the Murmansk Run.    

Trained seven months in Canada then he served on the H.M.C.S. Haida (Tribal Class Destroyer) on the North Atlantic and Murmask, Russia run. Hospitalized  through enemy action at R.C.N. hospital at Niobe, Scotland in March 1945. Returned to Halifax and boarded the H.M.C.S. Algonquin.

Discharged February 18th, 1946.

In September 1947 William married Mary Margaret “Peggy” (nee Hardy) of Kent Bridge and they would have four children, Carol, Wayne, Tracey and Greg.  CDN 16/07/55.  After the war William would serve as president of the HMCS Haida association.

William passed away 21 March, 2015 at Bluewater Health, Sarnia, ON at the age of 88 years. Interment at Maple Leaf Cemetery, Chatham, ON. CDN-Obit 23/03/15.
