The son of the late Mr. and Mrs. James W. King, who was the general manager of the Dominion Glass Company in Wallaceburg. Prior to the war Thomas was employed at the Dominion Glass Plant in Wallaceburg. He was commissioned in the 1st Kent Regt. as a Lieut. 4 August, 1940. He served in several in Canada before going overseas. He went over seas in September of 1944 as part of the CANLOAN program. Once in England he was transferred to the Bedfordshire & Hertfordshire Regiment and had been promoted to the rank of Major.
Captain King was commissioned a Lieut. in the First Kents when he joined in August 1940. He volunteered to be part of the CANLOAN a program with the British who were running short of junior officers. He was serving with the 6th Batt. Bedfordshire & Hertfordshire Regt. He would be reported as MIA while on operations against the enemy, the same time that his wife’s brother was KIA.
Married to Helen (nee Campbell), Mrs. King was living at 596 Victoria Ave., Westmount, Montreal, PQ. received information that her husband was MIA in November of 1944 an that he was a prisoner-of-war of the Germans 26/12/44, his new address was No. 91861, Oflog 12-b Germany. CDN 5/02/45. On the same day that his wife Helen was notified of her husband being listed as MIA she received notice that her brother Lieut. Campbell had been KIA in France
Captain King returned home 16/05/45.
