The son of Mrs. Claude D. Kent of King St. West, Chatham.  Was reported engaged to marry Marion Canton Hubbell, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Orvall Hubbell of Thamesville, ON., the marriage to take place in Sydney, NS. in November of 1939. CDN 21/10/39. P/O Kent was reported to be returning to Sydney, NS. in the CDN 03/01/40.

Enlisted with the rank of Pilot Officer. Went to Trenton where he trained for a year. When war broke out he was put on Coastal Patrol Duty at Sydney, Nova Scotia. By May 2nd, 1940, he had achieved the rank of Flying Officer. Then he was sent to Edmonton as commanding officer of the air station there with the rank of Squadron Leader.

 “Flying Officer and Mrs. William C. Kent have left for Montreal after a short visit with Mr. and Mrs. J.O.Hubbell, village and Mrs C.D. Kent, Chatham. Flying Officer Kent has been in Montreal taking a course in aeronautics and on Tuesday he and Mrs. Kent will take their departure from there and return to Sydney, NS.” TH02/05/40

In October of 1942 Sqd.Ldr. Kent had taken a two month course in Belleville, ON. and was returning to Edmonton with his wife and baby son Jon de la Poer. He then came back to Malden as commanding officer of that station.  In October of 1942 Sqd.Ldr. Ranked Squadron Leader: “Squadron Leader and Mrs. W.C. Kent left Tuesday for Alberta for a brief stay, then Squadron Leader Kent will go to Chatham, New Brunswick to take over his duties as C.O. for a few weeks. Baby Jon de-la-Poeur will remain for the next ten days with his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. J.O. Hubbell. TH22/10/42

“Squadron Leader W.C. Kent and Mrs. Kent after a brief visit to Edmonton, Alta., arrived in the village Saturday and on Monday, accompanied by their son, Jon de la Poer, who had spent the past ten days with his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. J.O. Hubbell, they left for Chatham, NB where Squadron Leader Kent has been stationed.” TH05/11/42

In November of 1942 the Sqd. Ldr. and family arrived in Chatham for the week-end. They left after the short stay to Chatham NB. where he would be stationed for a few weeks.   In December of 1942 Sqd. Ldr. Kent along with his wife and son arrived in Chatham from RCAF Chatham NB. for a weekend stay as guests of Mrs. C.D. Kent. From there Sqd. Ldr. Was going to RCAF No.1 Air Observer School – Malton where he was posted as the commanding officer. CDN 14/12/42 and CDN 18/12/42(P)

“Squadron Leader and Mrs. W.C. Kent and young son Jon have returned to Toronto after having spent Christmas with the latter’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. J.O. Hubbell. Other guests for Christmas dinner with Mr. and Mrs. Hubbell were Mr. and Mrs. W.J. Canton and daughter Barbara, Wyoming, Mrs. E.S. Hubbell, town, Mrs. C.D. Kent or Chatham and Mr. Jon Kent, RCAF Hamilton.” TH31/12/42

In June 1943 he went overseas and he was mentioned in dispatches. Returned to Canada in 1944 and was sent to Patricia Bay, British Columbia, where he remained till the end of the war.

Ranked Squadron Leader: “Wm. Kent left Wednesday for Victoria, BC.” TH02/11/44

He was stationed in Ottawa with the rank of Wing Commander and intended on making the Air Force his career.
