Sergeant Edwin Kempton left Montreal on the S.S. Teutonic 22 Aug 1914 and enlisted at Bedford Sept 5th for service in R.A.F. Imperial Forces andtrained as battery signaller. On July 9, 1915 Sergeant Kempton crossed to France 9-7-15 with the 15th Scottish Division and engaged in The Battle of Loos on September 25, 1915 and was awarded M.M. on the following October 23 for repairing telephone wire under heavy shell fire.
Later he took part in Somme operations from August 1, 1916 to February 1917, at Vimy, and Messines. On November 6, 1917, he was despatched to Italy and engaged in Piave with the Italians and returned to France March 25, 1918 in support of the Imperial Guards Div 6th Corps, 3rd Army at Monchy and all the remainder of the engagements until the Armistice was awarded bar to M.M. at St Ledger August 28, 1919.
Demobilized 4-2-19. transferred to 6th Reserve to await signing of Peace and discharge definite.
