Born in Chatham, ON.; the son of Mr.and Mrs William Jeffery of 129 Park Ave. West, Chatham, ON. In 1944 his wife was living at 129 Park Ave. West, Chatham, they had a son Gary. Prior to the war he was working for the Famous Players Canadian Corporation at the Capital Theatre in Chatham.

Clarence joined the ranks of the Essex Scottish Regt. as a private (A56921) enlisting in September of 1940. He was stationed at No.12 BTC – Chatham until November of 1942.

The CDN 20/03/43(P) reported the Lieut. Jeffrey of 38 Patteson Ave., his certificate from the Canadian Army Officers Training Centre at Three Rivers, PQ. in May.
Trained at Camp Borden and Ipperwash and went overseas in July 1943. Served in England, France and Germany and Holland where he was wounded in the thigh. He was promoted to the rank of Captain and received the C.V.S.M., The France and Germany Star, the 1939 to 1945 Star, Defence Medal and the Order of Bronze Lions Award from the Netherlands Government) He was reported returned, gazetted as a Lieutenant at Three Rivers, Quebec in February of 1943. He went overseas in July of 1943.
Clarence arrived in France on 12 July of 1944 with the Essex Scottish Regt. He served in the drive across Europe as the second in command of a company. Promoted to Captain in February of 1945. Clarence arrived in France on 12 July of 1944.
While fighting in the Sheldt area of Holland on 25 October he was wounded in the thigh, spent a month and a half in hospital recovering from his wound before rejoining his unit. The CDN 2/11/44(P) reported that Lieut. Jeffery was wounded in action while serving with the Essex Scottish on the 25th of October. CDN 2/11/44(P) He was also shaken badly by an exploding shell while “house-clearing” in Germany, suffering no loss in service time as a result.
It was reported that Lieut. Jeffery serving with the Essex Scottish had been promoted to the rank of Captain. CDN 7/03/45.
Capt. Jeffery returned to Canada aboard the troopship “Pasteur” landing at Quebec City. 12/08/45. Reported to have arrived in Chatham after crossing on the S. S. “Louis Pasteur” and being process on leave in London, ON. CDN 11/08/45.
The CDN 20/12/45(P) reported that Captain Jeffery had been awarded the Order of the Bronze Lion by the Netherlands Government “in recognition of the gallant service of the young officer during the fighting in Holland.”
Was on the Staff at #12 B.T.C.
Discharged September 1945.
It was reported that after leaving the service Captain Jeffery re-joined the theatre business with his former employer Famous Players.
