Born:23/07/1882, living in Chatham, ON. at 14 Elizabeth St. Reference: RG 150, Accession 1992-93/166, Box 4806-15, Item: 486478. A machinest by trade. Prior to his enlistment he served in the 26th Militia Regt.
Attestation: 7/07/1916 with the 186th Battalion, age 34 years old. While James was in service Mary lived at 26 Poplar St. and 33 ½ Dover St. in Chatham. James shipped out of Halifax 28/03/1917 arriving in England 7/04/17 aboard the S.S. Lapland.
Pte. James W. Jeffery went overseas with the 186th Battalion March 26th, 1917, and in England was transferred to the 121st Canadian Forestry Corps, serving in Aviemore, Invernesshire, Scotland He was admitted to Hospital in Scotland suffering with rheumatism.
He returned to Canada 28/03/18 from Liverpool Private James W. Jeffery received his discharge September 6th, 1918, as medically unfit for further military service.
He was granted a military grave marker 12/06/1963.
