Born 2/02/1901, the son of Joseph and Fanny Elizabeth (Payne), at 11 Cons. Dover Twsp. ( Dover Centre), possibly in the little white house beside the park. Howard attended S.S. #11 Dover Centre. He also attended The Chatham Collegiate Institute and was attending the University of Western Ontario prior to enlisting

Married to Edith Irene (nee Boley) September 1928, living at 46 St. George St., Chatham, ON. Audrey (died as a child), Ona Eleen ( St. Pierre), Douglas Howard, Morley Gene, Rebecca Joanne (Smith), Nancy Mary Ellen (Lusk) [same birthday as her father] and Judith Harriet (Dunlop). [family].

Howard enlisted in Windsor, ON., at HMCS Hunter in February 1942. Served as a radar technician aboard HMCS St. Croix as the electrical officer until being reassigned in 1943 to HMCS Montreal K319)   In 1944 PO. Jackson was returning to the east coast after his leave in Chatham with his family. At that time he had been stationed in Hamilton, ON attending the Technical School there. CDN 19/02/44

The ship arrived at Halifax 29/11/1943 and worked locally until 25/02/44. She did convoy in coast duty continuously for eighteen months with voyages to Murmansk in Russia, Algeria and Italy from her home port at Londonderry, Ireland.

On 17 December, 1944 she was one of the ships that rescued the survivors of U1209, wrecked on Wolf Rock, southwest of Land’s End in the Bristol Channel. Russell was discharged from the Navy in December of 1945.

When he returned to Chatham he opened the “Lamp Shop” on Queen St. eventually starting Jackson’s Electric Construction Co. with his sons and sold Easy Heating furnaces and oil burners.
