Age: 18 yrs. 11 mths., Height: 5’ 11”, Girth: 35”, Weight :118 #, Complexion: Fair, Eyes: Blue, Hair: Light Brown. A small birthmark. Medical 26/10/15 at Chatham, ON. “Fit”.
Private Jackson trained with the Boy Scouts three years and with the 24th Kent Regiment two years in Chatham.
He served with the 70th battalion in London, leaving for overseas Apr. 24, 1916, on the Lapland.
The unit sailed 24/04/16 embarked 26/04/15 from Halifax aboard the S.S. Lapland and 5/05/16, disembarked at Liverpool, England. 5/05/16. Transferred to the 39th Bn. at Shornchiffe 10/07/16. Drafted to the 5th CMR 17/07/16. TOS 11/07/16 and four months later he proceded to France with the 5th Canadian Mounted Rifles 18/07/16 ‘in the Field’.

Mr. George Jackson 762 Richmond St. N. , London, ON. Mrs. Harriett Jackson received the Memorial Cross and Mr. G. H. received his Mem. Scroll 18/01/21 and the Mem. Plaque 3/07/23.
A newspaper article (paper and date unknown) as follows:
“Word of Pte. Jackson Came to his Mother After a Long Delay”, Mrs. Jackson received word that her only son serving in the 5th Mtd. Rifles had been KIA, October 1st or 2nd of October, 1916. He went overseas with the 70th Bn. – transferred to the Mounted Rifles. Prior to the war he was a butcher in Chatham.
He had been In the midst of the heavy fighting for the last six months. News of his death was received by his mother. A letter received from a son-in-law stating that he son was dead. She was not in belief until ‘official’ word was receive that the message was correct
His father was serving with the 216th Bn. (Bantams) and a brother-in-law was on active service in France.
