Rank: CPT Reference: RG 150, Accession 1992-93/166, Box 4697 – 4; Item 48821. Date of Birth 20/12/1878 at Ridgetown, Howard Twsp., Kent Co., ON. The son of Mathew and Ellen Ingram, The brother of Maud, Herbert, John, twin sisters Savina / Addie and Grace. He was educated locally before attending medical school at the University of Toronto where he graduated in 1903.He opened a practice in Dover Centre, Kent Co. in 1904. Dr. Ingram was appointed the Medical Officers of Dover Twsp. in 1908.

Married to Reine (nee Morton) in Vancouver 2/10/1912. A physician surgeon living at 635 Superin St., Victoria, BC. 13 months with R.A.M.C. Attestation: 23/10/1916 to 143 Bn.

Dr. Ingram then Captain with R.A.M.C. served 13 months overseas. The CDP 18/07/1916 reported that Captain Ingram had returned to Canada on leave from the RAMC. In the interview Capt. Ingram who had spent time at the front and had been through some of the heaviest fighting of the war.

He said that he had met a number of Chatham and Kent County acquaintances who were all doing well and were in the best of spirits regarding the outcome of the war. Although he believe the war will last a long time. The present continuous advance of the British, “is but the beginning of an advance which will in time determine the conflict in favor of the allies.”

The paper reported that Capt. Ingram was home on a five to six leave before returning to the front.

Curators Note: Here Captain Ingram military record becomes confusing. His attestation record in the CEF begins with his Attestation 23/10/1916 to 143 Bn. in Vancouver, BC. It appears that he was then Taken on strength with the 1st Canadian Reserve Battalion and served in Canada until demobilization 20/09/1919. How ever there is also indication that he sailed back to England aboard HMS Southland with the 134th overseas battalion.

After the war Dr. Ingram lived and practiced in Ridgetown. He passed away in June 1957 ayear after his wife passed and they are buried in Greenwood cemetery, Ridgetown, ON.
