Private John Hunter sailed on the “Lapland” with the 186th Battalion in March 1917, training at Bramshott until September 1917, when he crossed to France transferring to the 18th Battalion. Six weeks later he was gassed and wounded in the face with shrapnel. He was admitted to hospital in France and later at Stockport, England. He was then moved to the Canadian Hospital, Basingstoke, and upon recovery was returned to Bramshott Camp.
Discharged at London May 24th 1919 due to demobilization.
