Private Hoskins & Vickerman home from the Front.

“Pte. Alfred Hoskins of the 1st Battalion, 1st Div., who recently returned home, said that in the darkest days at the front they knew they were going to thrash Fritz in the end, because they knew they were Britishers and they would see a glorious finish. “And believe me we did.” He joined the 33rd Batt. In Jan. 1915, went overseas in March 1916 and in Sept. of the same year crossed to France and was attached to the 1st Batt. of the 1st Div., as a sniper and observer. He is a crack shot, he thinks he did some damage with his rifle during the two years as a sniper. He was gassed once but did not leave the front. He was with the Batt. to the end and was in Cologne, Germany, with the 1st Div. He is glad that he went overseas, and brought back a number of interesting souvenirs. He is ages 25, and is the son of Pte. William and Mrs. Hoskins. The family had four sons who joined the colours.”

Discharged at London April 24th, 1918 due to demobilization.
