Private William Horner went overseas with the 186th Battalion March 26th, 1917, and was stationed at Bramshott Camp serving as Batman. He served in England for one year and returned to Canada and remained in the service at London as Batman.

His condition was prevent previous to enlistment and has been aggravated by Active Service. No improvement is to be expected. – Complains of defective vision.

Inability to see properly in March of 1917 – could Not See at 200 yards since then employed on fatigue and ‘batman’ duties, “PERMANENT”.  “Fit” – For special service in Canada. “Could not see targets at 200 yds.  DEFECTIVE VISION.
