Sergeant Horan enlisted in the American Marine Corps in 1913 and saw service along the Mexican border, receiving a medal as expert rifleman. Upon war breaking out he bought his discharge, returning to Canada in Feb. 1915, when he enlisted with the 33rd Battalion at London, Ontario.
He was transferred from the 33rd to the 30th Wellington Rifles with the rank of Lieutenant.
He was granted six month leave to recuperate after severe tonsilitis which was followed by diptheria and later by pneumonia with fatal results.
He died Dec. 24, 1915.
