The son of George Hill of Chatham. Prior to his enlistment he was employed at the Ontario Steel Products.
He enlisted in the army in April 1941 at Ipperwash, ON.. He was serving in the HLI when he was reported to have been seriously wounded on 17 October, 1944. George spent two months in a hospital in England. The nature of his wounds were not reported at that time. It turned out that George was wounded in the abdomen and his arm and was hospitalized for two months.
Severed with the Signallers 24th, Kent Regiment.
Trained in Canada one and a half years. Landed in France on D-Day and fought in the battles of Buron, Gaen, Falaise, Boulonge, in Belgium and Holland. Was wounded during October 16th, 1944, in the abdomen and arm from a bullet fired by a German Officer, while fighting in Holland, Hospitalized in Belgium and England.
Discharged July 31st, 1945.
After the war he married Doris (nee Fisher), 29 July, 1950 and they had a son Michael Alex.
Alex died 11/06/1998 in Chatham. Doris passed away 21 Apr. 2017. Both are buried at Maple Leaf Cemetery, Chatham.
