Joe was the son of Hiram Webster and Ivy Myrtle LaMarsh and the brother to Marjory Ella and Donald D. (RCAF) J96011.

Joe enlisted in the RCAF on November 1, 1942.  He was sent overseas in March 1944 and was posted to the 420 Squadron No. 6 RCAF Bomber Group at Troulhorpe, Yorkshire.  Joe had been a tail gunner.  He completed a tour flying as Tail Gunner on Halifax bombers.  He was ditched in the North Sea on September 15, 1944 after being damaged by aircraft fire over Kiel, Germany.  Joe was rescued 16 hours later and returned to base on September 17, 1944 to complete his tour of 30 missions.  He was reported returning from overseas duty aboard the S. S. Ile De France, expected to arrive in Halifax 2/10/1945.

He was discharged with rank of Flying Officer on November 4, 1945.
