Regimental number: 931602. Reference: RG 150, Accession 1992-93/166, Box: 4258-17, Item: 45704, PDF:4258 – SO17. DATE OF BIRTH: 31/03/1877 at Brantford, ON. The son of Cyrus and Martha Henderson of Brantford. The husband of Cora Evelyn Henderson, living at 56 Degge St., Chatham, ON. The father of two daughters Domie (9 yrs.) and Viola (6 Yrs.) His occupation prior to enlistment was Chauffeur.

Attestation: 26/10/1916 at Chatham,ON. Age 39 years, Height: 5’ 6”, Complexion: Dark, Eyes : Brown, Hair: Curly. His Medical 26/07/1916 at Chatham as “Fit” 27/10/16 to the No.2 Construction Battalion.

Private Richard P. Henderson left Halifax for overseas March 27th, 1917, arriving in England April 8th, After a short training at Seaford he proceeded to France May 17th, 1917, serving as cook, worked at the canteen and driving with No.2 Construction Battalion in the northern parts of France. The Battalion broke camp at La Jouix, December 5th, 1918, arrived at Etaples December 9th, leaving December 15th. for Bramshott Camp, England, and proceeding to Rhyl, North Wales, December 27th. He sailed for Canada January 11th, 1919, arriving at Halifax January 17th, and at Chatham January 20th.

Departed Canada aboard the S.S. Southland from Halifax and arrived in England 7/04/17. Listed for a time with Nova Scotia Regt. Overseas to France 17/05/17.

Pte. Henderson was reported suffering from Influenza 7/03/1918 hospitalized at Canadaian Hospital at La Joux Jura. He returned to duty 11/03/18 and remained on duty in France until 17/05/17.  

Richard arrived back in Canada aboard the S. S. Olympic arriving at Halifax, NS. 17/01/19. He received his Medical 5/02/1919 at London, ON. He was granted a furlough with allowance 20/01/19 to 5/02/19. He was discharged from HMS 8/02/1919. After his medical some defective vision which was evident prior to his enlistment with no aggravation and a GSW to his left arm, do disability  only a scar evident on his left arm. 

Discharge dated 8/02/1919 at London, ON., age 41 years.

It was reported in his Military file that Richard Philip Henderson died 16 July, 1954
