Son of Gilbert Hawley of Erieau, ON. A single sailor living at Erieau, ON. The brothers Gordon 2355549.  Attestation: 6/03/1916 at Chatham, ON. to 186th Bn. Found on Nominal Roll  of 186th Bn. 28/03/1917.

Age at enlistment 18 years, 6 months. Height: 5’ 8 ½”, Complexion: Fair, Eyes: Hazel, Hair: Brown, weight: 150 lbs., Tatto on left arm “American Flag”. His medical was done at Chatham 28/02/16.

He was with the 4th Canadian at Bramshott.

Departed from Halifax aboard the S.S. Lapland that sailed 28/03/17, arrived in England disembarked at Liverpool, England.

Went to France on a draft with the 18th Batt.  He was reported wounded 25/10/17 with a shrapnel wound in his leg. After treatment he had no disability.

Burton was given a 14 day leave 26/10/18. He rejoined the 4th to the 18th Batt. in the field 26/02/19. Served in England, France with the 18th Batt. age 20 years.

14/05/19 he sailed for Canada from Liverpool aboard the S.S. Caronia. SOS 13/05/1919 at Witley, Discharge Section. Demobilization 24/05/1919 at London, ON.
